Drip irrigation is water saving technology


Activities watering plants during dry season for some traditional farmers become a routine that is tedious. Starting from taking water from the source, transporting it to the garden, sprinkle on each plant, is an exhausting activity. But for farmers who know the technology activities of watering the plants become something easy and practical, just turn the faucet then all plants would be doused evenly. One way to simplify routine watering is by drip irrigation systems.

The basic principle of drip irrigation are pumping water and running it into the plant through the intermediary of the pipes that was leaked every 15 cm (depending on the distance between plants). Watering with drip irrigation system is usually done twice a day morning and evening for 10 minutes. These low water pressure systems deliver water slowly and accurately on the roots of plants, drop by drop.

The advantages of drip irrigation are bit of water use, water is not wasted, and evaporation can be minimized. Drip irrigation seems to be able used as smart choice to overcome the problem of drought or at least the water supply in dry lands.
Drip irrigation was first used in desert areas where water is scarce and valuable. Drip irrigation system is should not always use a pump to drain water to each plant. There is a more simple way is by utilizing the force of gravity. This method is suitable for a higher source of water from the garden. Even the sources of water 1 m high were allowed to using the drip irrigation system by utilizing gravity. Gravity system is can be further save costs, farmers do not need to buy pumps to transfer water into entire garden.

Installation drip irrigation system with gravity requires tank as water reservoir, the tower supporting tanks, valves, strainers (filters), PVC pipes, pipe fittings, and pipe drops (drip line) where the water dripped into the roots of each plant.

The capacity of a larger tank will result greater pressure so that droplets sooner. But it depends  on the requirement, to scale the capacity of the tank can be 100 liters, 200 liters, or 300 liters. But for the hydroponic garden water reservoir capacity can be larger for example 2000 liters. As a result of this height difference, the water will flow from the tank through PVC pipe, then the water flows into the drip lines that have the holes for dripping water to each plant.
