National University of Singapore (NUS) with Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Universitas Katolik Soegijapranata, and Universitas Pelita Harapan held NUS FASStrack Asia Summer School - FST 2203 in Indonesia on 4-14 July 2014. The purpose of this program was to share knowledge within the scope of food science and related sciences through industry, plantation, nursery plants, milking and visit of cultural sites in West Java and Central Java.
This program was also intended to deploy the network of food science technology of students in Southeast Asia. Through the industrial visit the students could observe from day-to-day processes in the food industry. The participants were expected to learn how to be a professional food scientist in the future. FASStrack Asia Summer School - FST 2203 gave students the opportunity to earn the academic credit while doing the fun adventure to absorb some of the cultural experiences in the visited country.
In addition to classroom activities and field trips, this FASStrack Asia Summer School-FST 2203 also offered various social activities like welcome session, tour of local cultural heritage, talking with leading speakers and farewell dinner for all participants. In the activity at IPB where Department of Food Science and Technology (ITP) acted as the host, the participants were invited to see directly the vegetable production at Agribusiness Development Center (ADC), to produce the analog rice at F-Technopark, and to make cakes from local material at Baking Research and Development (BReAD) Unit of IPB.
